The meaning of light and logos
From Unlearning Communism:
God used the words (logos) to spell the world into existence. Because people were created in the image of God, they should also use words to transform chaos into habitable order and to define the reality to be able to utilize it and thrive in it. In a simple but powerful verse from the Old Testament, Adam was asked by God to name the animals. This actually means something profound. By naming, by defining things in a precise manner, people are able to make them real, to bring them into the existence. Without the precise definitions, it’s impossible to link the objects with their functions and to observe their functional connections with other objects. Without the precise, freely expressed thoughts, the (vision of the) world can’t be turned into manageable reality.
John 1:1-5
1 In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
